Course Description

“Standard Level” certification meets the Occupational Health & Safety Legislation for both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

If a person becomes ill or is injured, prompt and correct action can:

  • Preserve life
  • Promote quicker recovery
  • Prevent the injury/illness from becoming worse

This two-day (16 hour) course uses a “hands on” approach and covers:

  • Emergency Scene Management (ESM), roles and responsibilities of a First Aider
  • Responsive & unresponsive casualty care
  • Shock
  • Severe bleeding
  • Wound care
  • Burns
  • Bone & Joint injuries including fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains
  • Chest injuries
  • Poisonings
  • Heat & Cold injuries
  • Rescue carries
  • Medical Conditions
  • Adult resuscitation including choking, CPR, 2 rescuer CPR and AED training.

Each student is required to write an examination on the principles covered with a minimum score of 70% to achieve certification.


Child/Infant and Emergency Level certification is also available.
